I love Yamaha, but absolutely hate the numbers games most manufaturers play these days with watts and max SPL. No, Alto TS speakers are not anywhere near \"2000 watts\" speakers, and neither are the DZRs. And no, a DZR12 will not hit 139 decibels, unless it is at one specific frequency with the internal limiters de-activated and measured only for a second just before transducer self-destruction. I wish manufactures all had to publish real world numbers attainable in real life using music program material and measured with an identical set of pre-approved parameters. I am looking to eventually purchase a pair of DZR12s in the future however, as I do like the premium neodymium transducers and bigger voice coils in the both woofer and compression driver. I do have some Yorkville Elite EF12Ps in my collection of actives with Eminence neo 12'' woofers (3'' VC) and Eminence 3'' VC neo compression drivers, but feel Yorkville could have done a better job of making the sound settings less dark and boomy, especially considering what the speakers are actually capable of sounding like. The low frequencies these things can put out are absurd considering their small footprint. The 60lb baltic birch enclosures are not exactly a pleasure to stand mount though :)

I've had the DZR12 for 4,5 years, and it can get harsh on louder volumes. To my experience that is mainly because the 1\" tweeter is so high powered that it needs a bit of eq to sound balanced together with the woofer. As in any application where you use this kind of upper mid-range speaker, you will benefit a lot from system tuning. After tuning this speaker is just flat out amazing.
