FYI: you can add a ugreen 2.5gbit network adapter to one of the Usb ports and it will be recognized no problem, The speed advantages tough are only sensible when operating the 2 drives as a RAID0 array. Also they removed the docker it is possible to run it sideloading as a manual install from the bigger brother files. Anyway this is the most informative review of the DH2300 so far as most of the others look like promos.launch

Ha! I literally set up a DH2300 last week to act as a media server at home, but I found out that I went a little TOO budget-oriented and it acts as only a storage and can't run any VMs or docker containers and returned it and got the DXP2800 instead. So this is a little deja vu for me!launch

I was close to buy this one but the DH2300 has few limitations, for 100 bucks more you have the DXP2800 with an intel chipset, almost the same Watt consumption and allow you for much much growth in the future. the DH2300 is the only UGreen NAS without the Docker and VM options, if you start with a NAS, you'll end up with a homelab, so keep it in mind, also the DXP2800 is expandable if needed, the DH2300 is not. I trully think Ugreen NAS are splendid, all of them exept the DH2300 is too limited in order to make it few buck cheaper, but when you spend that much in drives, spend a tiny bit more and get the next one in line.launch

1Gb Ethernet port? It's DOA. They should have dropped 1 or 2 USB in favour of 2.5 Gb Ethernet. If I was buying a NAS all 1Gb Ethernet is out of option for me. I want to future-proof it.launch

Oh and about the 1 GBit ethernet again do \"normal\" people these days have an 1 Gbit symetric internet uplink?\n I highly doubt it and if you want it as a cloud replacement your own uplink upload speed decides how fast you can write to it from the rouad (as you well know). For people who don't \"speak tech\" If your Provider sold you Something like 300/50 Mbit that means your download speed is 300Mbit and your upload speed is 50 Mbit both miles away from the 1 Gbit this box can handle.launch

The 1gig ethernet is a good choice on something like this, since it will make a big dent in price, possibly 10% ish. 2.5gig would have made ZERO sense, because this will be plugged into a ISP provided wifi+1gigabit switch by 99.99% of the users and left there to ingest dust until it is decommissioned some years down the line, at which point it may have been completely forgotten by a bunch of it's owners.\n Took a peek and the plain chip for 2.5GBE costs 10 bucks raw price at big quantities but there are a bit more... consumerized solutions to this - so I'd guess with regulatory things going well and so on it might bump the end user price by something like 20$ or so. So my estimate is pretty spot on, maybe even lowball. \nSo - there ya go - the $20-30 extra it would add isn't worth it in this segment, the customers for this aren't going to know unless you make a big deal of it. When you do make a big deal of it, half of the customers are going to be calling support saying it is not working. Explaining to them that they need to buy a whole new switch and reconfigure their network plus buy new NICs for everything to use it will NOT MAKE THEM HAPPY - and they will return the product to the shop for a refund - which will make the shop unhappy with UGREEN as a brand and in some cases stop selling them. Is it stupid? YES! But I have spent decades in the business, not in retail but talking to retail and talking to suppliers. I wish we lived in a world that is populated by people who don't act like this, but it is what it is.launch

An older Seagate drive caused frequent SATA reset errors until swapped for a Hitachi drive, and setting up existing drives can force a full reformat via storage pool creation, risking data loss for unprepared users.

Bought the DH2300 for my first NAS. Very simple to set up. The only problem is if you get the barebones (no harddrives) and want to use your own harddrives, you'll have to create a storage pool which will format your drive. I had two drives (10tb & 12tb) packed with movies. UGREEN DH2300 had no problem accepting the drives, but if you don't format the drives to create a storage pool, you will have to use them as a \"external storage\" (although the drives are inside the unit). As a External Storage, you can not write to your harddrives, only reading from them is allow. So, you won't be able to add anything to it until you format and create a storage pool. Ended up buying two 12tb ARSENAL harddrives to resolve this.launch

Good video on a simple setup. But if you're going to do this, please do NOT touch the hard drive board like David did. You run a very good chance of shocking components with static electricity. That may immediately kill the board or cause long-term degradation. Then your data will be lost. I used to do hard drive data recovery and cannot tell you how many times people brought dead drives to me for that reason.launch

One thing to note: I have this NAS and while I expect the newer Seagate Ironwolf drives are ok, an older 2TB Seagate I put in it had frequent SATA resets. The LED for that bay would flash red occasionally and there were “unknown SATA errors” in the hardware log. Swapping drives moved the problem to the other bay, so I replaced it with a Hitachi drive. No more issues.launch

One reviewer disliked needing 8 screws to mount two drives instead of a tool-free dock, and noted the thin top panel provides no sound dampening for mechanical drive noise.

I'm not impressed with the NAS. You shouldn't have to screw 8 screws to attach 2 drives to 2 trays, you should just be able to drop the drives in like on a dock. And there's no sound dampening to stop you hearing the noise of the drives. The top of the NAS is a thin width which won't dampen the noise.launch

Interesting. I might go for something like that, but I think this is a bit on the small side for me. One advantage the cloud offers of course is you don't supply the power. That's gonna use about 10kWh per month which is going to translate into something like £2.50 at current UK electricity prices (it would be cheaper for me as I have solar and stuff but that still needs to be considered) and I didn't like the level of noise. I guess the power consumption would come down a lot if using SSDs rather than HDs. Anyway, I've given you a sub and I'll keep an eye out for other offerings! Thanks!launch

Interesting, but you left out all the hidden costs. Does it run on magic, or does it use electricity? Cuz you didn't mention the constant power draw in the 'no monthly fee' pricing. Also, does it include free maintenance? When a disk or two inevitably get burnt, buying a $200 replacement drive instantly wipes out your cloud savings.\n\nWhat about uptime? Is it 99.9% online like iCloud, or are you just locked out of your files when your home internet gets nuked or the power blinks? Not to mention, if you try to grab a file while traveling, you are bottlenecked by your home's upload speeds, and if your house catches fire, your data is 100% gone. NAS is cool for local video editing, but calling it universally better and cheaper ignores reality.\launch

Too bad I didn’t know this is literally paid advertising. I watched this and multiple other videos before deciding to buy my Ugreen NAS. And it just arrived in the mail and what a nasty little surprise that I now know that I can’t use it without buying way more equipment and even THEN it absolutely will not do what I need it to do. \n\nBesides the unit itself, and the hard drives you need for it, which turns out that getting just one and then buying a second one later is not a good idea because you’re supposed to use RAID 1 with it, which means you really need two drives from day one AND that means you can only get max 30 TB, not 60 TB, you ALSO MUST HAVE an uninterruptible power supply. Sure, because everyone just has that lying around. I’ve never even heard of a UPS before. There went another $60 for a cheap one. And THEN turns out HAHA I still can’t use it because I don’t own a ROUTER to use all its features. Haven’t needed a router since the 90s. \n\nBut WAIT, THERE’S more!! \n\nAll the videos I watched made it sound like NAS is the answer to cloud storage. But it absolutely isn’t. I’ve now learned from every dweeb on the internet that 🤓🤓🤓 “NAS is not a BACKUP, it’s just storage” 🤓🤓🤓 so I have to have a DIFFERENT cloud server to backup the NAS which has… SHOCKER!!! A SUBSCRIPTION!!! AND I have to use RAID 1 meaning I’m paying for two drives to get the functionality of 1. AND I’m supposed to buy a second NAS to keep at SOMEONE ELSE’S house in case one house burns or is flooded. How very entitled to think everyone in the world has another human being in existence they can count on and trust with several hundreds of dollars of equipment and all your photos and videos. \n\nAND you’re supposed to back it up ANOTHER way on other formats like USB. WHAT???? How much will that cost if I already had to spend $600 for the use of 12 TB?? \n\nNow I’ve already spent $600 and can’t even use it yet. \n\nI’m honestly pissed. This thing is probably going right back to Ugreen if I don’t find a way to solve all those problems because the ONLY thing I wanted was a way to back up my photos and videos that makes them easily accessible. Ugreen confirmed at a trade show that the DH2300 does not support hot-swapping drives, requiring a full power-down to replace a failed disk, which is inconvenient compared to competitors.

Hi Robbie, I asked them at IFA, and they say it does NOT support hotswap. I actually drilled them a bit, and they kept saying it doesn't do hotswap / hot insert. I even asked them, so you have to power down first when replacing drives, and they confirmed that. Interesting that it somehow does some hotswap anyways?launch

One user found the TV app only supports video playback, not AI-organized photo viewing, making photos inaccessible on Apple TV or LG TVs without sitting at a PC, and switched to Synology instead.

Hardware is 10/10, but the software is a dealbreaker for families. If you want to see your AI-organized photos (faces, places, pets) on an Apple TV or LG, stay away. The TV app only supports video ('Theater'), making your photos a 'data grave' unless you sit at a PC. AirPlay mirroring is low quality with black bars. I’m returning mine and switching to Synology for their native Apple TV photo support. Don't buy this if you value your memories on the big screenlaunch
