Still have the 2015 and 2017 models and they are still running fast with no problem. I've had fire sticks, Chromecasts and other miscellaneous android boxes and they've all fallen by the wayside. The new ONN boxes are good but my Shields still reign supreme💯💪launch

A year ago I tried a few devices when \"upgrading my OLD google TV 4k\", not the new one, but the old physically smaller one. The new Google TV4k was complete dog trash when it comes to audio passthrough. I also tried Thomson 4K UHD, same stuff, so little support when you have a home theater and need audio pass through. Seems to be the story with all of these newer Android TV boxes, nothing beats the SHIELD. Luckily I was able to pick up a new SHIELD from a store that was not sold out. And it has the support I need for my home theater With a Denon AVR as the heart of the system.launch

None of the devices you mentioned are enthusiast class streamers like the Shield pro, as none of them support passthrough of all the lossless audio formats, specifically dts-hd master audio. The one device that I can recommend as a true replacement for enthusiasts is the \nDune Homatics box r 4k plus. It may not have a plex server or AI upscaling, but it does everything else plus more including playback of all lossless audio formats, dolby 7 FEL playback AV1 decoding and it is netflix certified. And it feels alot faster and smoother than the Shield pro as it has 4gb of ram. This device is my primary streamer and the aging Shield pro is the backup.launch

If you only use smarttube, netflix and basic streaming apps the shield has plenty of life left. \n\nHowever if you are a Plex or Jellyfin user and you have a dolby vision compatible display you will want more modern options like\n\n- Homatics Box R 4k\n- Ugoos am6b plus\n\nOnce running coreelec on these devices you have a much wider range of supported codecs and you also get Dolby full enhancement layer support which no other off the shelf device mentioned in this video offers. If you are an anime enthusiast the homatics also gives you native AV1 support, no transcode needed. That being said the firecube 3 can also do this out of the box (no dolby FEL though)launch

I had the apppe tv 4K first gen since it came out - amazing piece of hardware- but got the shield last year and I must say I understands the hype- it’s sharper and the Dolby vision presentation is phenomenal- also it has bitstream audio output - the 4K upscale is insane for watching older movies - even some old Polish comedy my dad used to show me growing up. - would for them to come out with anotherlaunch

To ppl hating on the AI upscale, dont know and have no idea what they are talking about. Its one of the reasons why I got the pro along with my older shield tv consoles. \n\nThe AI is an absolute game changer!!\nWatching a lot of movies/ shows that are not in 4k, the AI enhances the picture 10 fold!! Most shows on hulu are mostly 1080p, turn on the ai upscale and its night and day!!\n\nNow ,ppl think its magic when they want to upscale already crappy picture (480 or 720p) . Its usually doesn’t make much improvement. But if you have a great tv to begin with( oled), preferably ,then upscaling from 1080p is an absolute game changer!!!!!!launch

I absolutely LOVE my shield TV pro 😁 I'm SOOO glad I invested in this back in 2020. The AI upscaling definitely helps in a lot of situations, although not all of them. But it DEFINITELY makes stuff like anime that was sub 1080p look WAAAYYY better. Like it's extremely noticable. Plus this thing just has a ton of other great features. It's my defacto streaming box for sure. Also, the new updates clean up the UI quite a bitlaunch

I recently switched to the shield pro as my main streaming device. At first I did it exclusively for Plex as it’s the only device that works properly and passes through what I need and after a short while once I understood just how awesome it is I now use it for everything and completely stopped using my Apple TV 4K gen 3 on that tv. I do hope Nvidia will bring out an updated version and would buy it day onelaunch

The Shield TV Pro also has Ethernet, so you're not overloading your WiFi like other devices tend to. Running two 4K streams to two devices can eat up a significant amount of your WiFi bandwidth, and I'd argue it's definitely cheaper if you have Ethernet available to get several Shield TV Pros than to upgrade your WiFi sufficiently to handle full WiFi based streaming.\n\nAnd it's still the only device that supports a full BD Bitstream, so if you have Plex/Emby/Jellyfin and high quality media with Dolby Atmos or DTS HD or the like, it will just play it, while every other device needs it transcoded at the server, increasing cost there. The one feature I wish it had that makes the Roku Ultra better as a pure streaming services device is AV1 support, and hopefully a refresh in the next year or two will add AV1 and HDMI 2.1 for 8K or 4K 120 Hz.launch

As someone who's worked in technology (mostly military) for almost 50 years, I can tell you that when you run into that rare piece of gear that works year over year without problems, you'd be really hard pressed to say that it's 'done'. The price is what it is, the UI can be upgraded with a new launcher, and it can be configured to feel faster. I just purchased my first, and I expect I'll be using it for a long time.launch
