Holy balls, that’s brutal sound. I stumbled on this after seeing a few videos saying “Fender can’t do dirty”. \nFor a digital modeling amp at this price point I find this thing fantastic. Ola is a real metal head and he’s giving this amp some praise. That says something. I think this proves Fender can rip it up if you get the settings right with the heavy tones. Sonic taste varies between individuals so some may not like the sounds here but you can’t deny the amp can do the dirty tones.launch

People have disregarded this amp at their own peril. This amp kicks some fucking ass, like any amp you gonna have to dial it in but, this amp have pretty much every effect you'll ever need, its so damn easy to use, and it thumps hard when you turn it up, you have to go to the global eq setting otherwise it does sound slightly boxy on the original setting. I'm getting some seriously brutal sounds out of my and its dead fucking quiet when I'm not playing, no hissing or shit like that, its a bloody great amplaunch

I had a mustang 3 for a short time and it proved to me that digital/model amps can be seriously good. I think there's more opportunity for them to grow but you can get some great sounds - I mean the metal sounds you're getting out of this small amp is amazing when you think about what it is...launch

I bought this amp yesterday as a ‘practice amp’ (Bluetooth, fender tone app, looper). I own a katana MkII, Stl tonality tonehub and amp/artist packs, neural Dsp, Helix Native, and all the Positive Grid Bias amp 2 and FX2 for reference. \n\nThis amp has the best high gain tones in a fender modeler to date. You’re able to shut off the cabs and run this into a DAW and use IR‘’s! Further, You can send a line out to a powercab 112 plus and quiet the amp while being able to manage the level out with the channel volume. It sounded so good lmao, especially in stereo. \n\nI agree with Lee from Anderton’s and I don’t think anyone models fender amps as well as fender. Wonderful playing, thank you!!! You picked really convincing settings for the GTX! Many players choose between the Katana 100w mkII and the Fender GTX 100, I just send the Katana 100 mkII back, I think it is a great sounding amp, but the Fender has so many options and this wireless control app is just awesome. The Katana is more like a modeled guitar amp and the Fender is an amp-modeler ;)) But for practicing (Looper, backing-tracks out of the amp), the Fender seems to be the better choice. I think, for gigs it will do also a good job, if you work on the settings. It might be a little weak with the distorted high gain sounds, but which Fender amp isn't ;) (except my 1994 Evil Twin, which is as awesome as heavy;))launch

Nice video. I just picked up the GTX 50 as a starter/practice amp and absolutely love it. I should just sprung for the GTX 100 as it comes with the foot pedal that I now wish I had. I will definitely be adding it soon. The app is really cool. You can download and save new tones as presets, just wish there were more open slots. I find myself deleting some every day to try out a new tone. Overall it's a great amp and has quality controls and awesome sound. I do not regret my purchase one bit.launch

Great review Jack. I picked up a GTX100 a few weeks ago and love it. I have a few tube amps including an SS22 and Super Champ XD and really like how the GTX100 is lighter than even the Super Champ. I'm in a cover band and this new GTX100 makes my life so much easier, no tweaking knobs between tunes to get the sound I need. I simply use my iPhone to choose presets as we go thru our bands setlist. Lightweight, convenient, no-brainer, sounds fantastic, what else could one ask for? Well done Fender!!!launch

I'm just about ready to pull the trigger on this amp and this video answered many of the questions I had, now that we can't just go to our neighborhood music store and annoy the guys working there. The biggest was 'can I use this live?' and I think this pushed me closer to my purchase choice. The mic issue isn't an issue as I mic it w/a '57 anyway. The things you didn't like about it are not a problem for me as I'm just an old-school player that doesn't want to work out just to get my rig on stage. 22 lbs is perfect for this old dude's back! I own a mustang III V2 which is 100 watts. It is seriously loud if/when I need it. I can only assume this GTX is the same kind of loud. Mine sounds so good that the only reason really to own the IV or the V (which are both 150 watts) is the more fullness of sound you get from a larger cab. The GTX weighs only 10 kg or 22 lbs. That's light enough to pick up with one hand, and for us older guys, that really saves on your back, and if you have to climb a bunch of stairs to a gig. The GTX has 200 presets, most of which no guitarist will use and they can also be edited. The only major concern is if the software dies. Then you're stuck with a 10 kg paper weight. It's much cheaper to buy another one than get these fixed as solid state are extraordinarily complex and spare parts are expensive.launch

I started using Mustang amps a decade ago with a practice amp,I ended up with a Mustang floor unit and then a micro Mustang headphone amp.\nI'm sick of hauling my \"real\" amps around, so with 100 watts at 22 pounds this Mustang is pretty enticing for jam sessions that I don't really need my stack for.Sure it will never sound like a tube amp but turns out im the only one tripping on that. To every one else if it sounds good it sounds good.launch

Definitely close to the Katana in tone, with a much easier interface for customizing the settings of each effect, way more amp options, and even more effects than the Katana has. I also love that it has XLR outputs and stereo effects loop. The Katana has a few more i/o jack options though.launch

Thanks for this. many compare this one with the Katana. The Katrana has more greasy heavy metal like sounds at the distortions but this one wins in the Celan sound department. Agree? Then all this cool presets. \nWhat I wonder about especially was the direct line out. Up until now as you said, this is useless in almost all amps, sounds dull and flat. Especially for me who play with my fingers and slaps and smack all the time. But this one sounded real good on that. Or does anyone have more opinions on that ? because if you can drop the whole microphone deal at stages, that is a lot hassel savedlaunch

The tone and versatility of this Fender GTX 100 is amazing.\nIt does take a bit fiddling of all the settings to get what you want. But when you get there you will put away your tube amps.\n\nAs a certified Mustang expert I can tell you previously that with all \nother models the first thing I did was swap out the speaker to turn them\n into great amps. That was my only previous complaint - they put \nspeakers in that are a compromise to play regular music / line-in \naccompaniment, and cost.\n\nHowever... with the GTX 100 I can say the improved Celestion speaker they put in these are as good as it gets.\nI tried other speakers, while they sounded DIFFERENT, I won't say BETTER.\n I ended up putting the original back on. So save your money don't even \nbother. That being said, when I first turned it on I thought it sounded \nlike an AM radio... it definitely needed to be broken in. Superbly \nsmooth & sweet when it was. And most definitely use an amp stand to \nget it off the floor and pointing at you.\n\nI actually also bought the new Katana Artist MK2.\nThe Katana amp does appear better built and more solid, also with an amazing new speaker.\nThat being said, I always went back to the GTX for more fun and better \nvintage tones. The Katana only has 4 amp amp types. And each one is an \nextension of the previous. Add max gain to the \"clean\" and that is where\n the next \"crunch\" starts. So its basically 1 amp type, that you can \nextensively modify with the App.\nSo ended up returning the Katana, and kept the GTX, if that says anything.\n\nThe GTX 100 does absolute great vintage tones of old Fender & British amps.\nThere are several modern tones also, I just never worked with them.launch

It's still in the current Fender product line-up, so it's far from outdated. I'm contemplating one of these, moreso than a Tone Master. At least with the GTX100, I get (besides the supplied foot pedal), a big assortment of amp sims, and then there's the stereo (yes, 2 sockets!!!) effects loop. And better still, these things don't hold their value, so the depreciation makes these things a 'bargain buy' on the used market. Sorry pawn shops, I'll tell you what it's worth!launch

Crunch and saturate sounds are muffled alas, not convinced.\nYou can have about the same with a cheap pedalboard like GT1 or other and an active speaker. Nothing really new in my opinion.\nBut very good package for the price, all in one. Bluetooth, wifi, fx, amps, etc, etc… \nYes it’s nice or not bad depending of the experience user. But for 600 bucks… about the triple of an used mustang III, 100 watts. Or you can find some good pedalboards and an active speaker, all brand new and with an expression pedal for close to that.\n\nUseful yes, essential or revolutionary no.\n\nThe good thing about Mustang are mainly Fender amps simulations. They are good for most.launch

I've got a Mustang 3 v2 and I found also that it's not all about going through all the presets to get the sound you want. Once you learn how to edit you can make any preset sound the way you like. I have 4 presets that are the ones I generally use for the most part, so I've got them as my first 4 presets which makes them quicker to switch between, rather than having to cycle through a couple of dozen or more to get to the one I want.\nI was not all that impressed with the sound of my amp when I first got it. I thought it had too brittle or harsh a sound on the high end frequencies which I found hard to roll off with the tone controls but came across a video that claimed these amps can sound like that when first played through due to the speaker itself, and suggested putting some hours into really working the speaker and it will mellow out on it's own. And I found this to be true after a few gigs. My amp is also 100 watts into 1 12\" Celestion. \nSo just a tip for someone who buys the GTX 100 and finds the same thing. The good news is that 100 watts is a lot of power you can use to work that shit out of the speaker and after a few gigs you may notice how your amp is starting to sound a bit \"warmer\". You have now \"broken in\" the speaker.\nMy amp only came with the two button footswitch. I recently found a four button version at the local music store but it was the GTX version. To my surprise it has full functionality with my Mustang 3, and I find especially on live gigs, it saves a lot of work, and if you can get all your effects you've assigned to your presets sounding to your liking, that footswitch is the only device you need at your feet. You don't need a large array of floor pedals since you've already built your presets to include whatever effect(s) you want. \nI love what Fender has done for the low price amp market. These amps perform very well and for the price I think you actually get a little more than what you'd expect to pay for in terms of how versatile it really is. It makes streamlining your rig so easy - 1 guitar chord that goes directly to the amp, and a footswitch with it's own connections to the back of the amp, takes two minutes to set up - what's not to like.\nI was thinking of upgrading to the GTX, but after reviewing a few videos on the GTX models, I'm not sure it's that much of an upgrade as both amps seem to have the same general architecture with a couple of extra bells and whistles I suppose for the GTX, but not necessarily stuff that I need, as my amp does more than enough for my purposes. \nBut I would certainly recommend a GTX for anyone who's wanting a good, powerful, versatile and very reasonably priced amp. And if I'm not mistaken, the GTX 100 model includes the FOUR button footswitch - which irks me a bit because I had to by one separately lol - this amp packs a lot of features and capabilities for the buck.launch
