Users report the xCAN's balanced output easily drives power-hungry planar magnetics like the HE560, LCD2c, and HE1000, and one calls 1000mW a lot for a portable device. It even got a vanilla HE1000 to listenable levels single-ended. However, one HiFiMan Edition X V2 owner felt the single-ended output lacked driving power, having to run volume near max.

The XBass and Presence tone features stood out as a highlight. Multiple commenters single out the basic bass boost as tasteful and a genuine all-around improvement, while Presence and 3D effects are described as more recording-dependent but sometimes quite nice. Reviewers like that all these functions can be combined or switched off entirely, giving flexible, personalized tuning not found on simpler DAC/amps like the HipDac.

Bluetooth performance won over even wired-setup loyalists. One user says the xCAN is so pleasant in Bluetooth mode that they stopped using a Chord Mojo strapped to their phone, admitting the Mojo is better but not enough to justify the hassle for portable listening.
