Great review, but i have another opinion.\nWhen i personally tested the Suunto Ocean, there were missing features like dive planner, underwater usage of compass or stopwatch. Yes, there are competitors on the market like Apple watch, Garmin Fenix 8 (recently introduced, i didnt tested yet). In this price range is Suunto Ocean still good, but with huge disadvantage of the missing common features, which reduce the value per price ratio.launch

That's a great review! \nOcean has many pros but unfortunately i have noticed during my dives that you cannot use the compass underwater, there is not a @+5 feature, no ndl planner and no dive history. I hope that Suunto will add them in an update. If this happens then it will be a perfect dive tool...launch

Users repeatedly complained that the dive display cannot be customized to show tank pressure, deco ceiling, and TTS simultaneously, forcing them to cycle through information instead of seeing it all at once.

The fixed dive screen layout is a deal breaker for me. You can only cycle through information in the bottom field. But you cannot change the layout. So there is no way of having the tank pressure on the screen at all times and your deco ceiling or TTS for example. You can have only the one of those on the screen at a time. I don't know what they were thinking.launch

An air integrated dive computer that does NOT let you see/show your remaining air pressure at all times (e.g. when using the compass, or viewing other data) is a deal breaker for me. Absolutely NO customization option of the dive screen on the Suunto is a great oversight, and would have been so easy to add as it is just a software issue. I understand they went for simplicity, but they overdid it and compromised safety imo. Although much more expensive, Garmin Mk3i all the way. If you don't want air integration, I would go for the Garmin Fenix 8 (which works for scuba down to 45m).launch

I have the Ocean and agree with a number of your key points. Silly that Suunto released the hardware ahead of the compass (which is definitely coming). I do think digital compasses can be good (Oceanic app on AWU is very good). As you've noted though the UI is a bit too form over function too much clicking is required to assimilate all common information. I fear that if they follow this model forward, the compass info will exclude too much useful data and the situation will just get worse. In addition to your screen mock up, I'd love to be able to disable some of the crazy long list of data points scrolled through at the bottom.launch

Many early buyers were shocked the Ocean shipped without an underwater compass at all, and even after it was added via update, some found it lacking a proper bearing feature or too basic compared to older Suunto models like the D5 and D6i.

Have they improved the compass feature during dive mode? It seems pretty basic from what I've seen, you have the latest video on this so wondering if there was any changes to this, it was one of the biggest complaint about the Ocean. Like on my MK2i, the compass is like a real animated compass view and marking headings on the compass visually is just a press of a button. TIA!launch

Great video thank you! I'm thinking of moving from my MK2i to the Suunto Ocean due to a couple of reasons, touchscreen, better display and price. The MK3i is way out of my price range. So far I'm loving the features of the Ocean but one that I love on my MK2i is the compass reading during a dive and heading marking easily. The Ocean compass reading is kind of 'basic', have they or will they improve the compass part of the Ocean. I havent' found any information on the Ocean and most videos on YT are more then 8 months old. TIA.launch

Bought a Suunto Ocean about a month ago, the product immediately presented the following problems: 1) sleep monitoring does not work; 2) absolute imprecision in detecting heartbeats; 3) imprecise GPS track on forest routes; 4) dive alarms barely audible. Finally, the Suunto writing engraved on the metal case was erased after just 30 days. When I contacted the assistance service they did not offer any valid alternatives either in terms of repair or replacement. Much better Garmin...goodbyelaunch

The dive algorithm only supports depths to 60m, disappointing a user upgrading from a computer that could go deeper, and the watch lacks trimix and sidemount support for technical diving.

Thank you for this review! I was on board until you mentioned the algorithm only goes to 60m. So thank you for letting me know that! I assumed it was good to 100m. I'm looking to upgrade from an older Garmin Descent G1, but the G1 can actually go deeper.. wanted to cheap out instead of the mk3i (or mk4i when it comes out). But now I get why Garmin is a bit more expensive.. better product, more features and capabilities. Better options like the titanium wrist band that won't break like the rubber ones. And when that happens you lose your dive computer / watch!launch

Did 5 dives already with the Suunto Ocean. Man, it is a great dive computer. The screen is very bright and the buttons are very accessible with 3mm gloves. Lots of info available on the screen. You can (obviously) dive air and nitrox, but not trimix. So it is recreational oriented and not really a tec dive computer. But than, that’s not my type of diving. \nUsed to dive with the Suunto Eon Core and had a Garmin Fenix 6 for multi sports. Now I got all in one for half the price of the Garmin decent Mk3.\nIt fills my needs, so……GREAT!!launch

Owners noted issues like a persistent no-fly time icon that wouldn't clear without a full reset, an outdated PC application not updated since 2022, and empty space in the dive layout.

As a sports watch — there’s no countdown in the interval timer, and you can’t set it up, not even with a phone.\n\nAn annoying \"No-fly time\" icon appeared, and it won’t go away. A green airplane icon will keep showing if you’ve ever activated the scuba dive mode. Does anyone know how to turn it off? After three days, I reset all the settings, and the icon disappeared.launch

I have the Ocean, considered the Mk3 but it was just too expensive for me as a recreational diver. Ocean is a beautiful watch, although the OHR during land exercise is rubbish and a proper chest strap is needed. The Suunto app is kinda cool too for keeping track of weekly targets - e.g., cardio, strength, mobility, flexibility activities.launch
