I was a Surface Pro user from the very first device. I moved over to Apple once the M Series was released. The Surface Pro is an amazing experience though. The one device basically combines the IPad and MacBook Air. You have the functionality of the iPad because it is flexible and portable, plus allows you to write directly on it and has a touchscreen. Then it fulfills the need of the MacBook Air by giving you access to full programs instead of apps. The issue was the power and efficiency the M series chips offered. Now that Windows has moved to ARM, the Surface Pro is catching up, but the software needs to be updated. Once the software is caught up, I think it’ll be more beneficial than the IPad, because again, it can operate full programs like the MacBook Air, so that means your portable device will be able to actually utilize all of it’s power instead of boxing you out of using the software fully like iPad OS does. I have been waiting for Surface Pro devices to catch up because it reduces the need to have both an IPad Pro and MacBook Air, and may even replace the need for the IPad and MacBook Pro depending on how well they build it. \n\nMost people do not need a MacBook Pro or even an iPad Pro level device though honestly. Devices are getting so good, even if you do stay on the Apple platform, you can run entire businesses with the base model iPad with iPad OS 26 and a base model MacBook Air since they come with 16g of RAM now. The tech world is changing so much, in ways that are really good for us as consumers. 10 to 15 years ago, the devices you needed to run a full business would have cost 3 or 4 times this much. \n\nI remember filming a documentary for a local newspaper in about 2014. I had to buy a desktop computer from BestBuy for around $4,000 just to edit the documentary. I couldn’t edit it on any of my laptops. The multiple times and plugins were too much for everything I had. Then rendering and exporting took hours. The process was expensive, time consuming, and pretty much horrible. This was why production companies had to have editing rooms, with stationary devices. \n\nNow a person can operate a full service production company, filing from a cell phone, editing on a tablet, then either producing the final project from a super thin laptop or from that same tablet. What used to cost thousands of dollars for the film equipment then thousands more for the editing station can be done with a 2 year old cell phone and a used tablet or laptop. I’m grateful for this because millions of people around the world can enter new fields at a much lower price point, which especially matters for people either closer to poverty or in places that do not have easy access to tech. \n\nAnd if you can edit video on a device, it can do just about anything because that is one of the most demanding loads we can place on tech. So if you can operate a full service production company using these devices, you can run pretty much any type of business with them!
