An impressively flexible all-in-one that replaces multiple boxes. Owners repeatedly describe consolidating a separate DAC, speaker amp, and headphone amp into the AO300, appreciating the HDMI ARC, USB-C, Bluetooth, optical, coax, RCA and subwoofer outputs in one unit. It's used successfully with TVs, turntables, and streamers, and several call it one of SMSL's best value products, with plenty of power for desktop and bookshelf speaker setups.

HDMI integration and filtering are incomplete. Despite having HDMI ARC, the AO300 lacks HDMI-CEC, so it can't be powered on/off or have its volume fully controlled by a TV remote, a frequent complaint. There's also no adjustable high-pass or crossover filter for the subwoofer output, and no auto-on/auto-input-switching, limiting its soundbar-replacement claims for some buyers.

Sound quality is fast and bass-heavy but divides opinion versus refined separates. Many find the sound neutral, deep, and precise, powering demanding speakers with ease, while others report thin or missing mids, coldness, edginess, or a less-refined class D character compared to amps like the Primare I15, Denafrips Pontus, or Accuphase.
