9:23 Gotta say....not a fan of the snare sound. No body to it. All high end (2k?) and nothing else. Toms sound okay. Have decent resonance. I really like the kick sound. Thumpy but not over-bearing. But, yeah, that snare doesn't do it for me. Very thin. Seems like, all around, a lot of the mids and low-mids were taken out of the drum set sound. Dunno for sure without looking at the actual processing being done. Almost like the drums were all gated. Not sure if the combination of the mics being hyper-cardioid and being processed has something to do with that. They're designed for reducing ambient stage noise (which I guess they do quite well). I've never heard one of these live yet, so I'll reserve real judgement until then.\n\nI'm late for the giveaway but I will answer the drumset tone question anyway since I'm a drummer. As far as tone goes, I'm most picky about toms for the drum set. Yeah you want the kick drum to....well...kick. And you want the snare to crack. Cymbals to shimmer. But well tuned toms just make a drumset sing. Let 'em ring! I can't stand the over-compressed sound favored nowadays. Makes them sound like boxes. Tune the toms up good, then you can throw pretty much any mic on them and they will sound great. Minor compression (to avoid spikes), bring 2k up a little bit, bring 100-ish up a little bit depending on the tom, and boom. Easy peasy.\n\nEDIT: Also, not a huge fan of the fixed head for the NXN6. I wanna be able to get whatever angle I want out of a mic. I WISH that head could swivel. Personal preference.

I really like the way the kick drum sounds with NXN2. The sound is fast and tight, well balanced and pumps well. With NXN6 the snare and toms sound specific in my opinion and are not suitable for all genres of music. The sound of the toms is very neat and soft, restrained (or is this how Jeff sounds ha-ha), not a bad sound, but for my taste it lacks richness and transients. The sound of the snare is absolutely not my preference, it is thin and lightweight, strongly reminds me of the classic sound of the shure 57, I really do not like it and it has become boring to me.\n\nI listened to another test with shure NXN6 and to my taste with a snare drum it sounds worse than shure 57, the sound is boomy and unnatural, much less high frequencies than 57.

Wow! Did not expect that from Shure. The snare would be my favorite and now having an option besides the sm57 is a game changer! The kick mic reminds me of the 52 but has a little more snap. As a drummer and a sound guy I might have to get a nexadyne kick mic and using it as a kick in and the 52 out. Great video Scott!!!

Great drum mic review Scott! I'm always chasing the drum sound from Eve 6's Horrorscope. I think I like fat wood snares and large kicks with plenty of attack but a huge bottom. I think bringing the Nexadyne technologies into drum mics is a solid move, and I bet we start seeing these in live settings as much as the other tried and true standard mics!
