You know. The Dreamcast might have been the best console ever released. For 1998 it had incredible specs, internet out of the box, no hardware bottlenecks. What isn't talked about is the ratio of good games to bad games. I mean the Dreamcast might have the best ratio of any console ever released of good to bad games. There are something like 10 legitimately bad games for the Dreamcast.launch

So much nostalgia for this system. Bought in 1999 with a VGA adaptor, key board, mouse, and Quake 3. I remember feeling like wow, consoles are really starting to catch up to PCs. I was 15 when the Dreamcast released in the US, I remember buying one along with Sonic Adventure and Street Fighter 3. I was blown away by the graphics, bigger games and online capabilities. I was a fan of Phantasy Star Online, spending so much time on that revolutionary game. I met a girl while playing (She was a bit younger than me), and we immediately became friends. Obviously, due to the shutdown of the servers, we went our own separate ways. But 6 years later I found her on Facebook, and she became my girlfriend. We're still together, and we still play on our Dreamcast. Thank you for this nostalgic video, I admit I teared up while watchinglaunch

I worked at Blockbuster also. I remember the release of the Dreamcast. I would rent one of them all the time. I ended up quitting, so I didnt know they dropped support. \nI ended up buying one at price cut. I love the eccentric games Sega put out. \nSadly, I had to give in and get a PS2. I liked the PS2 but I didn't have the same fondness that I do for the Dreamcast.\nI still have mine that's about 5 feet away from me. I'm using the new Brawler controller. I have it converted to HDMI for my HD CRT. Games look awesome! \nI don't believe this console was a failure, I think everything around it was.launch

The Dreamcast is an awesome system. It was a fighting game fan's dream featuring the most accurate arcade ports at the time. The Marvel vs. Capcom series, King of Fighters, Fatal Fury and Street Fighter III were all the best on the Dreamcast. They also had the first MMO for a console: Phantasy Star Online. What also hurt the DC was Sony was telling retailers that if they didn't showcase the PS2, they wouldn't give that retailer Sony products to sell. The manager at my local Funcoland told me when I was picking up some DC games. I bought a PS2 on release day and the laser burnt out about a year later. I picked up another PS2 and two years later that laser burnt out...meanwhile I still have my original Dreamcast that still works today. The Dreamcast will always be better than the PS2 in my opinion.launch

It’s so nice to hear about younger generations getting into older consoles. Especially Sega who was such a huge player in the 90s. I grew up with Genesis, Saturn and Dreamcast and couldn’t recommend them enough. As far as recommendations go I’m going to recommend Soul Caliber, Shenmue and House of the Dead. All are pretty affordable still. Also if you have access to a VGA adapter connect the Dreamcast up to a desktop monitor. The picture is so clear it could be mistaken for modern gaming. I also really recommend the Saturn library if you like anything with Japanese influencelaunch

All games are actually compatible with VGA on Dreamcast, some simply didn't have the boot sector included in the disc to bypass the validation.\n\nThere is however a simple bypass, put the game in, unplug the cable from the back of the system, turn the system on and when you hear the first very loud laser scan immediately plug the cable back in.\n\nWhen the system does its second laser scan a few seconds later it will then output to the display.\n\n You can also bypass this by using a boot disc, Codebreaker disc, or GameShark disc.launch
