Multiple commenters called the driver control panel weird or lackluster, noting the USB buffer/streaming mode setting is the main tunable parameter and that Roland deliberately limited adjustability to avoid clicks and glitches. One user needed help after tracks wouldn't play back while recording, and another had to fully reinstall drivers after getting no sound at all, suggesting setup can be finicky for newcomers.

Sound quality and headroom impressed several buyers. One user found the sound clean and pretty flat, and another reported enough headroom on Hi-Z input to keep the gain knob around 40% even when playing hard with active EMG pickups. A different commenter felt it lacked the 'enhanced' character of some competitors' preamps, calling the result less exciting but arguably more accurate for tracking.
