GainAssist seems awesome but I would still pick the DJI Mic system over this, mainly thanks to internal recording on the DJI and the safety track which pretty much negates the need for any automatic gain control. And is just works so easily, every time, has a charging case, all that jazz. The form factor is also better on the DJI. I sold my original Rode Wireless GO as it was way too hot all the time so after that I don't really want to trust another Rode wireless system... Their other mics are fantastic most of the time.launch

No you cant connect 3 people on the go me. Our small tiny cameras only record dual channel. One left and one right. Except you want to merge stuff and then its when you destroy the sounds and you start crying when in post😂 because the one of the 2 was making a glitch or a noise or something that you cannot disconnect as they are merged.\nWith the go 2. You can easily as a splitter cable and have a lav or another mic ( its just 1 cable) . And still have internal recordings on the mics which is a must for me for any interferences.launch

I love that receiver doubles as a mic now; however, recording with 3 transmitters is useless if two will be on the same channel. You say the line of sight range is 39 yards, but rode says it's 100m or 109 yards. Not enough info on the gain assist algorithm. Auto clipping features usually remove full bodied sound from the sound wave peaks which could be bad. No internal recording is a deal breaker especially since these units are cutting audio at 40 yards vs the 100m spec. Also, we don't know if there are magnets to attach the mics to things.launch

I use Sennheiser G3 in my home studio but I wanted something to use with my iPhone for shorts and the ME seems to be perfect for this. I tried to connect the G3 are to the phone but couldn’t get it work. It’s a pity about the ME battery but if it lasts for a few years I’ll be happy with that!launch

It's time for Rode to sort out their QC department. The same thing happened with Wireless Go Gen1, and while they handled it really well in my case, I would have thought they would adjust their QC process to avoid future first batch lemons.\nAlso, I am with you on the battery thing, it's quite frustrating. First smartphones and laptops, now microphones. What's next, cameras with built-in batteries that we need to upgrade every two years to keep them running? Come on!launch

A great review as always. It appeared that all three mics mentioned have non-replaceable batteries? I agree this is a mis-step. Also, the minimum requirement for me is reliability. The ME seems to fall short in this respect. I suspect most people don't have the opportunity or desire to repeat shoots or events as a matter of course when something goes wrong. I am with you all the way about replacement batteries! I have RODE Wireless Go II around 2 years old ( just out of warranty ) and the capacity of the batteries on all 3 units is down more than 60%. \nFrom 7+ hours down to 2 hr 50 min max on a good day. I've contacted rode and basically they pointed me to my local shop that did nothing. So after 2 years of use I can throw away something that was very expensive and that is not usable and reliable for professional work ( weddings ). They basically forcing you to buy new set every 2 years.launch

I just bought rode on the recommendation of a friend that used to work for Bose. First clue when there were no instructions with the microphone. Second is the special apple dongle need to connect this thing to my phone. Third is how absolutely wildly complicated getting set up and started is. I don’t understand any of this crap. This is clearly a microphone set up for professionalslaunch

Thank you so much for this video. As a very novice videographer, I would have had no idea how to link the TX and RX to my iphone and what settings to use as there were no instructions in the box. I watched your video before making the purchase as the ME seemed the right option for me. I'm not a big YouTuber and budget was a consideration and this is top end for my needs (only use imovie to edit it - no time or desire for any other post production edits) but having just tested the RODE ME, it will be a game changer. My last microphone broke some time ago and was not wireless. My videos tend to be filmed outside, so the last few have been poor due to relying on the iphone microphe. During the test it even performed quite well on playback despite some gusts of wind. Thank you once again. RODE should be thanking you for the excellent tutorial for beginners.launch

The branding is huge and distracting. Still no charging case. Still need software to change settings. This is not an improvement or upgrade in anyway shape or form compared to the wireless go. DJI mic is still way better in every waylaunch

The compromises for the ME seem substantial compared to the GO II, and the ME is entering a vastly more competitive marketplace than did the GO II several years ago. In a vacuum the ME is a mildly intriguing option, but in the reality of today’s marketplace its value proposition doesn’t seem immediately compelling. I would have hoped for better from Rode by this point—at least a more aggressive price point.launch

The wireless mics from rode have treated me well, however their biggest crux is the software to retrieve the internal recorded files. I’ve had more issues with that than the simplicity of the DJI wireless mic system. If rode could figure that out I would recommend them more, but for now the DJI mics are so much better.launch

Thanks for another great video, Curtis! The clicking noise is the same exact thing I experienced with Rode Wireless Go II, and I experienced it recording with both with an iPhone and Go Pro. I contacted Rode Support and sent multiple audio samples, and they elected to replace the entire system. I had Airplane Mode off during my audio tests. I also noticed that the clicking noise is less (if not, absent) when using the TRS/TRRS cable. The clicking noise was more with the USB cable.launch

The microphone is very boxy/muddy, but RODE’s wireless distance is amazing.\n\nUnfortunately RODE once again made the mistake of slapping a large logo across the the front. Most people use black gaff to cover it as it is a huge distraction. They somehow made it worse with the ME. My suggestion would be to keep the side engravement and remove the front logo as well as the gloss. Maybe they could release colorful cases to protect the TX while also making it look better on camera. At least a white one for weddings.\n\nI don’t think you mentioned this in your DJI Mic review, but the microphone input is indented on the TX which prevents microphones with locking connectors from fully connecting. The RODE Wireless Go II does not have this problem. Ironically I had to buy the Rode Go Lav’s to make the DJI Mic work as my Sanken COS-11D’s and Sennheiser MKE-2’s did not work with it. I’m sure DJI lavs would not be good anyway.\n\nThe only thing that makes the DJI Mic worth it is the shape, the record button on the side, and the ability to easily offload files rather than using the RODE Central App. You still have to gaff the logo off the front. DJI also needs a white option for weddings.\n\nOverall I would use the RODE units as actual wireless units since you can use lavs that cost more than the RODE on the RODE. You mentioned something about picking up a \"clicking\" sound. I also have a Shure MV88 microphone and its instruction says, when connected to a phone, to put the phone in Airplane Mode. To avoid a clicking sound. Not sure if that is the cause in your use of the Rode Wireless ME but thought I'd mention it just in case. BTW, enjoyed your review, great job.launch

*Update — I did some additional testing on the clicking issue. It does not appear to be related to wind and the GainAssist feature. My current hypothesis is that it may be caused by radio frequency interference. Best to turn your phone to airplane mode when filming.\n\nWe filmed most of this with the RØDE Capture app. It doesn't have exposure or white balance controls as far as I can tell so the footage is pretty rough. But this represents the most common use case for the Wireless ME — vlogging with a mobile phone. Please don't judge me. LOLlaunch

It is 2026 and the Røde Wireless ME and their iPhone app is flawed and does not work seamlessly. I was trying to split audio channels. Does not work in app, but in a third party app just the TX is recording with merged channels. Does not make any sense. The Rode Central App appears flimsy and handling/pairing is cumbersome. That is simply too unreliable for the price tag; I need hard and software to work; I have to be able to rely on the manufacturer's app to provide me with the (actual true) info/settings and recording options I need. While I am happy with the Rodecaster etc., I cannot recommend the Wireless ME.launch

I just only have one red curly cable in my box and when I plug it in northing is happening ? Hi. The app is showing I have to update, inspite of having version 1.4.7. It is impossible to pair them. I only see RX. Not TX. I have tried for 1 hour on my IPhone 13. These microphones are new. Needing an app for pairing is NO GO (on ANY device); how long those app will be available in stores? How long they will be maintained compatible with new phones? Or with old ones? What happens in 10 years from today? For me needing an app = disposable item, so I'm not going to spend more then 15/20€ tops on anything that hasn't full controls/menu on the item itself. If I buy something professionally, I need to be sure that it will work for at least 8/10 years for cheap stuff, and 15/20 years for expensive stuff (lights, lenses, also camera bodies even if with actual fast tech paces you'll switch them much earlier)launch

The large branded logo on the front of the transmitter is called distracting on camera, requiring the included black stickers or gaffer tape to cover it, which some feel undermines the product's presentation.

Great vid. One thing to add to your video. During the video you said that you need to “somehow” hide the wireless mic with the front having the bright rode logo. In the package there are two black stickers that come with it. You can use those to stick it on the front of the mic to black it out. I placed that sticker a little higher so it would also dim the lights more. \nHope this is helpful. \nAnd I agree with another comment I saw. Rode should use your videos for their tutorials.launch
