I have 2 D70's and really like the punchy color palette from the old nikon sensor. Hope one day to convert one of them to IR or maybe find a D60-80 that's already converted. I enjoy shooting with older cameras. I have my original D100, my Fujifilm S-3 Pro and I've added D200, D300, D700 in recent years. I've never shot a D60 but the one thing that would make it different is it used a CCD sensor (like the D100, D200) instead of the CMOS sensor. Some say the CCD sensors are more \"film like\" but I don't know. The software these days is so good you can create just about any look you wish. :) The newer Nikon 35mm f 1.8 AF-S G (or whatever the designations are) is a very nice, sharp lens and would pair well with your D60 in my opinion. Maybe try shooting it in Monochrome with that CCD sensor?? If it shoots in RAW and JPEG I think I'd set it up like that and shoot Monochrome and see how it does. If it was your Mom's camera it's a keeper anyway in my opinion. :)launch

Nice find. It may \"only\" be a 10 megapixel CCD sensor camera, but it has great colour fidelity from the CCD sensor. They take great pictures. Bear in mind that a 4K TV picture is only around 8 megapixels, so unless you are planning on printing your pictures and sticking them on the side of a bus, 10 megapixels is more than good enough for most things. I bet the picture quality kicks the pants of your phone.launch

These are D60 and D200. The colors these cameras produce are unparalleled.\n\nI fully agree with you about D60's portability. Yes, this is my best travel camera. All my Canon DSLRs are of pro and semipro grade therefore, not as light as the D60. I own few point & shoot cameras as well but, those are not as versatile as DSLRs.\n\nThanks again.launch

I think these old DSLR cameras are great for learning the basics, and you also doesn’t cry a river if you loose them. The photos you will get are all right for any personal use, or can be with a bit of post processing.launch

I wanted a cheap beater camera and lens, and I just found that camera and lens for barely more than $100 ($61 and $47 respectively). I like my micro 4/3 Olympus way better (so much easier to adjust settings with the dials and use LCD screen to help frame shots), but this is still fun, and it captures sunset landscapes really well.launch

The d60 is the first camera I have had and am still using. I needed to pick up a dslr for photography class, got it for like 100 of a friend. I have loved this camera so much,getting to learn about this camera I believe has helped my skills on understanding composure and lighting in its self. Recently got a new D7500 to enjoy with my D40x and D60 Nikons I've had from new in '08 & '09. Definately get the 35mm AF-S 1.8 G DX lens , cheap , light and sharp.\n Not going down the mirrorless financial rabbithole, too old and smart for that caper. DSLR's still rock for me. You can easily learn to use the D60 in M,A and S modes.launch

I have a DX40X that I got from the flea market for 5 euros years ago. I have been using the same lab PSU method to charge it since I got it. How else are you supposed to charge this damn battery? That beeing said the camera is absolutely indestructible. Also the power management is very impressive, you can leave it \"ON\" for weeks and it wont drain the battery. Just grab the camera and use it! These are really great the document your projects since you can just have them arround like a tool in your workshop and smartphones are really annoying with manual/close focus pictures.launch

I have a D100 and D200 that rarely see the light of day. I have D7200 and D800 that are regularly used. Your camera probably came with an 18-55 and the 55-200, then the 18-200 VRII added for convenience. The 18-200 is a remarkable lens on its own. It will take images well above its assumed market niche. The VR is quite usable and even though it's not a fast 2.8 lens, I used one a lot for travel photos when my earlier crop sensor cameras were constant companions. We regularly use 20-24 megapixels as a baseline now, but I would spend a long afternoon to tally the weddings I covered with a 10 megapixel CCD camera in its day. So long as I don't starve the sensor for light and don't raise the ISO past 640, it was easy to pull 11x14 prints. If significant cropping was needed, I might have to stop at 8x10. \n\nThe tiny battery was a thing that Canon and Nikon did to their \"consumer\" cameras. The more upscal models and full frame cameras tended to use the same larger battery like the EN-EL3 or EN-EL15 in their respective generations. Without much of a frame rate, and most buyers if the day having some experience with film, people tended to be conservative with taking pictures and not blow through hundreds or thousands of exposures in an afternoon. Storage was pricey too. Sometimes I think we are so spoiled in photography, that it's just too easy to become sloppy. Overshoot, shoot without a plan or even a clear subject, and the expectation it can always be fixed in post.launch

Great find! Hard to believe anyone would just throw a camera in the trash. It has a much larger than $0 value - maybe not a lot, but not nothing. My Dad bought me the D90 way back in 2009. Still have it. Way better dynamic range than any cell phone camera, but the resolution isn't as good. Videos no longer than 5 minutes and no external mic. Great for somethings, not for others.launch

The D60 was my first DSLR and I still own it. I don't use it anymore, but I will never sell it. I bought it 2009 and used it almost 10 years. The picture quality is great but the high ISO performance is bad. I don't recommend higher ISO values than 400 with this camera. I used this camera with only one lens (18-135mm, no VR). The battery life is very good. Now the communication with the speedlights doesn't work properly anymore. All of my recent flash photos with this camera are too dark. The exposure is not correct and I tried it with several speedlights. One of them is even a Nikon speedlight (SB600).\nOutdoors, under good lighting conditions the pictures still look great.launch

Ye I use D60 a lot of times, ISO 200/400 is best for great lighting like flower up close photo’s. I used it try out shooting ice hockey for my college club team for there last game a day ago with only able to use ISO 800 up close n ISO 1600 for farther away shots. Overall 9.2/10 camera huge disadvantage once it hits night time but simple n a good camera for those learning, i just haven’t had time nor the money to get a new camera bodylaunch

Best lens to pair with the D40-D90 is the 17-55 f2.8 pretty much the only lens needed. \n\nAlso the D40 is actually better than the D60 if you value flash. The D40 flash sync is 1/500s vs 1/200s in the D60. They both have FP flash sync up to 1/4000s.\n\nThe D40 is in its own lg. Being small, light, fast flash sync beyond anything that's been released in 30yrs with a mechanical shutter. It has even better color accuracy.\n\nAll the little DSLR bodies are good.\n\nResolution is irrelevant as you can enlarge the images easily with no quality loss using ai or photoshop.launch

i keep shooting with the D60-D40-D40x, IMHO you have to know your camera and the D60 is easy to learn; if you cannot use a camera to it's fullest potential it's a waste-- i.e. higher specs did not make me better at photography, it just gave me some higher quality, uninspired pictures. btw putting some good glass on these cameras is a must, i use a Tamron AF 17-50mm f/2.8 SP XR Di II LD Aspherical non-VClaunch

My first ever DSLR camera ..Bought it brand new way back in 2008. Loved it to bits.... (Sadly, it got stolen when I was on holiday in France) \nI did replace it with a Nikon D90 in 2010, and I still have this camera to this day. \nThe Nikon D60 is a very basic 3AF camera with a 10MP CCD sensor inherited from the Nikon D40x, and they added a dust reduction system on the Nikon D60 \n\nIt is still a nice \"Learner\" camera for someone wanting to learn photography \nThank you for this video.launch

I am not sure I agree that Nikon D200 is a better value than Nikon D60. First of all, Nikon D200 has banding problems (most noticeable in early-production units). At the time, Nikon acknowledged the problem and offered free adjustments that would reduce (but not eliminate) the banding. \n\nFurthermore, Nikon D60 has a self-cleaning sensor and Nikon 200 does not. \n\nFor these two reasons I would say that Nikon D60 is a slightly better value than Nikon D200.\n\nP.S. Supposedly, Nikon D200 has a higher cost, more power hungry version of the sensor than Nikon D60 which some people prefer.launch
