Software and registration problems dominate the complaints. Multiple users describe the iRig failing to register with Amplitube, apps that never detect the device at all, and unresponsive support tickets. Others hit compatibility walls with Tonex, Mixcraft, or Windows drivers, and one HD X owner needed a separate firmware updater just to get their iPad connection working. These setup barriers seem to be the single biggest source of frustration across the comments.

Signal quality complaints center on missing gain control and headroom. One long-term user found the input had very little headroom before distortion with an active bass and called both input and output stages 'wimpy' compared to desktop interfaces. Another said the lack of any input gain control made the unit effectively unusable, forcing digital-only adjustment that destroyed tone with low-output guitars. A third reported the unit degrading with awful sound and latency after a year of use.

Some users still found real value in the hardware. Despite the software gripes, one commenter said the device itself is great and it was only the Tonex and Amplitube apps that gave them trouble. Another appreciated the convenience of having a dedicated instrument-level output. A third had one last six years before it died, and one reviewer was using it to replace an aging Guitar Port unit entirely.
