Sooo, based on your DAC suggestion to me the other day, I purchased the Fosi Audio ZD3, but I also purchased this FIIO K11 R2R to compare the two. Your description of the FIIO K11 R2R is spot on. Your description of its sound is literally exactly how I would describe it (in both oversampling and non-oversampling modes). \n\nCompared to the ZD3, the ZD3 is more airy, but also more sibilant. S's can sound slurred at times. It definitely has sharper edges than the FIIO. The 'sharp edges' of the ZD3 are actually not totally out of hand like some similarly priced/ entry level delta sigma DACs, however. There is a certain 'fineness' to its edges, as though they've been mildy polished. \n\nThe middle frequencies of the ZD3 are also nice and open, and the bass is quite full. \n\nThe K11, by comparison, is richer and fuller-sounding, a little more attenuated in the high end, and the sonic performance is less 'outlined'. Vocals have more 'meat on the bones' (as Thomas says) and the separation of sounds has softer transition points. \n\nI've been using both units in stock form without any power upgrades or op amp mods. \n\nSo again - the description of the FIIO in this video is spot-on, which means I can trust this reviewer's judgment. \n\nInteresting to note is that I seem to prefer the ZD3 over the K11 when the K11 is in oversampling mode, however I prefer the K11 over the ZD3 when the K11 is in non-oversampling mode. \n\nIn my case, since I have pretty revealing speakers, for the most part (I currently have about 12 or 13 pairs), so the warmer FIIO is most likely staying, and the Fosi will likely be sent back. That said, it's still sort of up-in-the-air, because the Fosi is really darned good for an entry-level DAC. \n\nMaybe I'll keep both! I may actually even return them both and try the K13 R2R instead! ;)\n\n\nBtw - @iiWi Reviews - thanks again for taking the time to respond to me the other day. I appreciated the assistance.
