I really cannot imagine why Dyson did not give the US Animal III the jointed handle design. It makes it so much easier to use the hose. Without it, the hose feels very awkward and impractical to use compared to my other vacuums; especially my canisters.launch

I’m visiting my sister for 3 weeks in the U.S. at the moment and she has a dog and she bought this exact model. Let me tell you this weird thing is a suction powerhouse, but a nightmare to use! I help her in the household while i’m staying in her house and I never encountered a more inconvenient vacuum cleaner in my life than this one 1.) This thing is really heavy. “It’s on the more heavier side” is an understatement. My sisters house has a second floor and lifting this monster up and down doesn’t scream convenience to me. 2.) It has a very weird and stiff manoeuvring mechanism. I don’t know how exactly to describe it. You have to use it to understand what i mean. 3.) THE HOSE… My sister showed me one time really quickly how to get this hose out of its dock but i seriously can’t remember anymore how she did it and since than i’ve been trying to get it of my self but it doesn’t matter what button i push or in what way i grab and pull it, it won’t come of. I have to ask my sister again on how to do it but it’s really frustrating that you basically have to look in the manual to figure out how to detach that hose from its dock. it shouldn’t be this complicated and it should be self explanatory, but it absolutely isn’t. 4.) You are absolutely dependent to use the hose because thanks to the stiffness of that thing and the shape of the intake you can’t go into the corners of a room with that. If you want your corners clean, you have to use to hose which is an extra step compared to every other normal vacuum out there were you can easily manoeuvre into a corner. Also, if you have stairs you also have to fiddle with the hose (like shown in that review) because like a said that thing is huge and heavy. \n\nThis vacuum is super powerful but i just can’t deal with all the inconveniences. My sister actually wanted to return it for the same reasons but her husband convinced her to keep it and now she’s regretting that decision. Every standard 100$ vacuum is easier to manoeuvre and use than this thing. I will never ever complain about my cheap standard vacuum cleaner at home after i’m done using this monstrosity.launch

We just got ours, and we love it! But the only thing we are concerned about is the hose attachment. There is so much suction resistance that it feels like the hose will break on us! This also makes it a challenge to keep control of the head as we are fighting against the resistance of the suction. Any thoughts? Tricks?launch

Debris like toys, popcorn, popsicle sticks, plastic caps and pet hair repeatedly clog the internal hose, cyclone, and brush roll, requiring regular disassembly to restore suction.

OMG…..I have taken everything apart, called Dyson, what a joke, found your video…your video was the only one that address the want…when looking down the wand, I could see a clear plastic top that was from a eyeglass cleaner…I didn’t notice is when looking down the wand until I got a flashlight and saw the clear plastic piece that was stuck….i poked it out and wahla the hose was clear…thank you, thank you, thank you!launch

Thank you so very much for this. I fought for over an hour trying to figure out what was wrong with my animal 2 vacuum . I deep cleaned the whole thing still was not working properly. After watching this I found it was the hose with the tiny screw that was clogged I didn't even realise that was there. You saved my vacuum's life! I have cleaned the filters on my Dyson Animal 2 several times and could NOT figure out why it wasn't cleaning very well. This morning it started making a horrible noise and stopped sucking completely. I thought it needed replacing. I watched this video and realized I had never taken the head off. Well, it was so clogged with dirt, hair and other nasty things, I needed needle nose plyers to pry it out! I have had this vacuum for 5 years and have never done this! I thought I needed to have my new carpet professionally cleaned because it looked so bad.\n\nWell, needless to say, I was ecstatic. It was a bit tricky getting it back together since I had no leverage but finally got it. I have never been so excited to vacuum my floors. The carpet was filthy and the canister filled up with grossness! Now my carpet looks like new again! Thank you so much! : )launch

I just got this Dyson Ball Animal 2 Blue. It came with all sorts of attachments. However the Cleaner head Assy kept coming put and would not stay in place. Although Dyson was quick to send me a replacement, I am surprised with the quality control, which I feel should have been more robust.\nMy question is, is there any difference between the various color types Blue, Purple and Iron with regards to the place it is manufactured, the quality of the components that has been used and its overall specifications.\nThank you for your time.launch

Bought one of these a few months ago and am still waiting on Dyson to fix it! From the get go, straight out of the box the dust canister doesn't open when you press the button. I have had THREE replacement cyclone units sent to me by Dyson and they ALL exhibit the same problem. You press the button and the dust bin lid doesn't drop.open. the problem is that the button doesn't push the red rod of plastic which goes down the side of the canister down far enough. If I push the rod down manually the lid opens. This is a manufacturing fault and Dyson don't want to know.launch

Long or pet hair frequently wraps around the brush-roll gears and motor brackets, occasionally melting plastic housings and requiring disassembly with specialty screwdrivers to clear.

One thing to add. You need to remove the brush rollers and clean the hair that gets in deep at the gears that drives them. There are a total of 4 Philips head screws, two at each side. The rollers can be removed to expose the drive gears. The drive gears can be removed using a torx head driver. If you have pets or any one with long hair this is a place for that hair to get stuck. Clear all hair and reinstall. This will save you from having to buy a new brush head assembly, like I did!launch

If you have a pet that sheds a lot of fur, especially long haired pets I've noticed that the cleaner head on these are known to get fur trapped inside the center roller portion. It's the area that holds the two rollers in place in the center. It's a pain to have to unscrew the two philips-head screws on both ends(x4 in total) and remove all the fur thats inside the black adapter(held in by a hex screw). I've had two cleaner heads fail on me due to that issue. What happens is, you'll smell burnt hair when your vacuuming and overtime the plastic holding the end screws of the rollers will melt right off. Ever since finding out how to clean that section out, every time I vacuum I would need to remove a ton of trapped compressed fur inside the black adapter piece. If you ever get a Dyson, I would suggest finding one without the two separated rollers on the cleaning head. Thanks for your videos!launch

Something very important to clean that you missed is the motor for the rotating brush. It's not as simple though. You need to unscrew each brush side, then just pull the brush out. Then use a torx bit to unscrew each side of the motor brackets that the brushes go on. Hair and dust gets stuck inside these brackets and actually started to melt some plastic (I smelt burning so that's why I did a full clean). Not everyone has torx bits but this is a very important area to clean if you have animals with long hair or you yourself have long hair as it will eventually clog up and burn.launch

I was disappointed calling Dyson Monday. Bought to replace old Animal, which I loved. This model has no step to push the machine forward u make it ez its not. Attached hose harder to detach, and flimsy to reattach- it's garbage not for people who really clran homes- like I do. The flap by handle now has AIR intake SUCKING NEXT TO YOUR HAND, Really? Why? The little cover on the very top of the handle is very flimsy. Inevitably it will tip over when using the detached wand and break this cover . Dyson used to be built like a tank. But using a 2 cent plastic piece on a vulnerable part?launch

Don't gloss over the fact that the storage for the accessories is atrocious. The small tool constantly gets knocked out as it is not held securely. Also using the attachments is pretty unwieldy. Trying to use the attachment on the end of a big wand that is tightly kinking the hose the whole time is not my idea of a usable tool. My other gripe about this vacuum is the bin size and how it collects dust in the crevices that is hard to get out when you empty it, and you will be emptying it a lot. That being said, I love this vacuum. It cleans like no tomorrow. It is extremely maneuverable. It feels like a pro tool when you use it.launch

My Dyson Animal 2 was just delivered about 30 minutes ago and I'm here to tell you that without your video I'd never have been able to put the thing together! Thank you so much. About that 3/4 ringlike collar you mentioned, my picture assembly instructions didn't show that at all, but it WAS shown in the \"looking for blockages\" image. I even struggled to get the darn thing out of the box! I opened the box at the top but no way could I pull the main contents out--I had to also open the bottom end and push really hard from that end to get any movement. Without a doubt, Dyson's instructions are the worst, most useless instructions on the planet!!!! Many of the instructional pictures seem to be important (big red Xs, exclamation marks), but no explanation for what exactly they are trying to emphatically tell you what to do or what NOT to do. Tony, thanks for saving my day!launch
