My only real complaint thus far is the Poly Aftertouch is only available on the 88 key, the one for piano players. (and the price). Like what? The synth guys are more likely to utilize that feature than the players who want the weighted piano keys. Other than that, fantastic synth. Oh yeah, and great demo BTW! hahalaunch

Great demo.. I was at my local music store and they couldn't do much of anything. They kept saying it was powerful with authority. But it was all talk. I played around on it myself for 1hour and it was very clear a Mofit with a master effect knob. I played the Kronos for 5 minutes and sounded great, easy to use. The Montage to me felt like 1/2 the keyboard of a Kronos. I would buy a Montage for $1500.. Maybe but then again Kronos does everything and better.launch

The weird thing is the output from the Motif XF is amazing, but they really dropped the ball with the original Montage - everything was treble heavy and pianos sounded like Marimbas through a p.a. It’s good to hear that they have improved the output with the M, but really this is just correcting a major flaw in the original Montage.launch

I really had high hopes for the new Montage (and I still do), but my biggest problem with this board is that in every single demo I've heard until now it just sounds very digital and sterile (sorry). At this moment I actually think that the synth section in the Nord Stage 4 (even if it is not nearly as deep as the one in the Montage) sound much more organic, warm and analoge-like than the Montage. Of course I could change my mind if I try the Montage out in real life, but at the current moment I'm absolutely not convinced to trade my Nord Stage for a Montage,launch

Users wish the Montage included an onboard song/pattern sequencer and sampling like older Motif or Korg Triton workstations, saying current EDM-style performance patterns are worse than sampled loops and a DAW is otherwise required.

Is this a “Synth” or a “Workstation” ? I.e. built in sequencer like the older Motif or Korg Tritons . Or I have to use a DAW in addition to make songs… I really would like a modern “do it all keyboard workstation” that doesn’t require a computer.🤔launch

Great sound.but I hate there is no song-pattern sequencer and no sampling. all those EDM/Trance style performances are more horrible than sampling loops from records. its a cool concept, but it would be better with a on board song-pattern sequencer and some great acoustic funk drum kits.launch

Something you said in your first montage m videos and I don't see mentioned often is that the montage m solved the \"one midi input channel - one part\" limitation. This was huge for me because I bought a modx 6 with the hopes of using it as a lightweight synth to which I could plug my external 88 key weighted keyboard. This in theory allowed to be able to have a full sized keyboard while still retaining the possibility of a portable setup. My hopes came crashing down when I realized there was no way of controlling more than one part at a time from an external keyboard (at least one with a single fixed midi channel output). Nor was it an option for changing the part that the ext. controller plays, so you can't control different parts with different scenes. And this wasn't even different for the montage. It seems completely insane to me, and I've wondered many times if it was due to hardware limitation or just an option Yamaha purposely wasn't interested in delivering. Now the montage m finally gave us this capability, but the smallest model still is too heavy for it to be as convenient as I wanted.launch

A Montage 8 owner still prefers their Alesis and Korg for B-3 organ sounds because the mod wheel only adds coarse tremolo, and Yamaha support couldn't offer a clear way to properly assign a Leslie effect.

Hi Andrew - great video. I have the Montage 8, but for church I still prefer my Alesis and my Korg N364 for their B-3 sounds, esp. with Leslie effects. On the Montage, the mod wheel only seems to add coarse tremolo to the B-3 patches. Have you found a good way to add Leslie, then save it in a real-time knob or slider? (I wrote to Yamaha but only got a \"you can change anything you want\" answer). Thank you!launch

I think this is the best synthesizer ever made, my only regret is that the AN-X only got 16 polyphonies. Since these are not on the Chip, but loaded in software, do you think there is a chance that they will double its polyphony in the future? Are there limits in software, or can this limit still be pushed? I know this is an interesting question, and obviously only Yamaha knows the answer, or they decide whether to implement it.launch

A commenter dislikes that Seamless Sound Switching only supports up to four sounds per scene and sometimes causes an abrupt volume jump when switching, preferring how competitors implement the feature more reliably.

Montage is a great synthesizer. I have the Modx7 and it has the same sound engines. However I don’t like Yamaha’s “Seamless Sound Switching” because in scenes you can only do 4 sounds to seamless switch and sometimes it jumps the sound volume when switching. I like how Roland and Korea does Seamless Sound Switching. It just work no matter what sounds you are using and up to 16 per scene.launch

Thank you for the video.... All good but the touch screen, which has been a huge disappointment - very much used to screens on iPhones, iPads and Galaxies since ages .... still don't know why this low resolution screen on Montage and touch could not be calibrated at all.launch
