It was seen as a good option for parents' or beginners' networks, letting a tech-savvy relative manage it remotely without exposing a web panel to the WAN. The design and threat management features under 'new settings' were also praised as improvements over the standalone USG.

No PoE ports is a recurring and significant complaint. Many users flagged the missing PoE on the switch ports as the biggest drawback, since it prevents powering additional access points, switches or cameras without extra injectors or a separate PoE switch. This was described as a major missed opportunity for a device otherwise aimed at consolidating home network hardware, adding unwanted cost and complexity for anyone expanding coverage or adding UniFi Protect cameras.

Setup reliability and cloud account requirements frustrate some buyers.
