Fitting the XAV-AX5550 into a VW T4 takes some improvisation. One owner cut a hole in the cubby below the stereo to feed a cable through a rubber grommet, forcing the connector through a slit and cable-tying the bundle behind the dash so the USB port couldn't be pulled loose. Another installer avoided the supplied double-DIN cage entirely, reusing the existing single-DIN cage instead. A third owner, mid-purchase of the same unit, asked whether the surround ultimately held securely, suggesting fitment isn't guaranteed to be straightforward out of the box.

The facia trim can be a stubborn, non-plug-and-play fit. After struggling to get the trim to clip in as intended, one installer broke off the four small plastic retaining tabs and instead used blobs of butyl tape in each corner to hold the facia in place. This suggests the stock clips don't always align well with T4 dash cutouts.
