On the V Stage You would find an expression pedal can be used to make live volume adjusting a whole lot better and easier. You can also use the same pedal on your Montage to operate the Super Knob. Game Changer for live sessions!! Thanks for the video - very useful as I’m looking at possibly changing from the Yamaha YC88 to the V Stage 88.launch

Great video. I also found my V-Stage to be on clumsy side when it comes to programming but it didn't take long for the workflow to dial on in. One aspect that you didn't touch on is the ability to map pedals (expression and switches) to allow for different operations depending on the engine in use. Very powerful.launch

I just got the V-Stage 88 a couple weeks ago... I've loaded up tones from ZenCore library (about 46 packs)... great to demo them on the board, see what you like, and you can delete the ones you don't want very easily... or you can load in individual sounds... I'm having a great time with it... I'm using 4 pedals (1 volume, 2 as a switch to turn on/off parts, 3 rotary on/off, 4 as hold).... the board is easy to assign to pedals, it's easy to tweak sounds... and having all sections at the ready makes playing live very versatile from soft pads up to massive stacks... used live, at home, in studio for rehearsal with band, and in studio for tracking... I'm very satisfied!!!launch

Multiple users appreciate the semi-weighted waterfall keybed and lighter weight of the 76-key version, finding it easier on aging hands and bodies compared to full 88-key weighted boards. One switched from 88 to 76 specifically because fast organ riffs were easier to play.

Hi Terrance, thank for a really great review. I know it’s not exactly the newest Roland product but it’s what I have my sights set on to replace my Roland RD 700 GX. Unfortunately where I am I’m unable to test one out before buying and I was a little worried about the keyboard. I’m used to 88 weighted keys but as I get older (68 this June) the lighter touch of the waterfall keyboard and the lighter overall weight of the 76 key V-Stage really appeals. Your video has given me the confidence to go ahead with buying without trying..thanks. 👍🏻launch

The roland v-stage is a pretty decent board. I have the 76 version myself and made some really dope oatches for it already. The semi-wegihted waterfall keybed is surprisingly smooth, it takes some getting used to but I like. Its my go to portable boardlaunch

Great review! The V-Stage 76 has become my perfect instrument. I've compared it to the competition but decided to go with the Roland. Sound, feel, usability speak for the Roland in my opinion. Even if it was priced 2k more I would still choose it.launch

I agree with you about the menu system as I come from Korg but after a month of use it is MUCH easier. Right out of the box my experience was that this is the most pleasure and most immediate and fun and beautiful sounding keyboard I have ever owned (DX7, O1W-fd, Triton, Kronos, NI, Virus, ProphetX). When you talk about the Montage I feel what you are saying about the ease of a super-knob. The layout of the controls on the V-stage is not great visually although the controls themselves are brilliant. Pro-tip: This REALLY helped my eyes locate things with more immediacy... What I did was cut out a small bit of circular colored sticky-note paper and place them on the TONE SELECT knobs. They are staggered and not at the same height for each module, bad move Roland! Now my eyes do not have to search. I would love to replace them with colored knobs if possible. The volume level knobs are easier to see and are at the same height for each module and surrounded by LED's. I also put a small rectangular piece of sticky-note and wrote MENU on it for the menu button. I think they should have put that ABOVE the write button but that is just my brain. Lastly I will say I am madly in love with this instrument. Some have said the pianos are not good unless buried in a full mix (of course some of them sound crap!) but that is not my experience as I am making exquisite sounds from the V-stage and I have an extremely sparse ambient solo-piano focus right now.launch

I have the V-Stage 88 and have had the Montage in the past and I disagree and think the Montage is way more complicated to navigate than the V-Stage! That is why I sold my Montage. You just learn the menus just like you have done with the Montagelaunch

The fact that Roland implemented a sound recording interface that's appropriate to the times we're living certainly raises the bar for what stage pianos and such instruments have to offer today. I mean if Studio Logic could do it, why not them? I cannot justify Nord not offering advanced recording or routing options anymore. I mean, to each their own. Nord will continue to be covetted and useful, absolutely... But, nowadays, we can access tools that give us anything we need without having to sacrifice buying a car.launch
