Got the Fostex 2 weeks ago for 470 bucks. With a bit of eq u get a really audiophile listening experience with super crisp bass and really good mids and highs. Amp required for airyness, im using Topping E70 and L70 stack. Next step Audeze LCD-X :D

They were definitely more neutral than I expected when I first tried them on too and that's what made me keep them as my daily drivers. The amount and the quality of the bass is just perfect for my preferences. The Nighthawk wouldn't have been for me.

Really like the matte finish of the TH-610 wood cups from what I've seen online, would really like to see them in person. I started off with the Denon AH-D2000 ~ 8 years ago and just recently picked up the TH-X00 PH's.... absolutely love the PH with the J-Money Lambskin pads (since the PH are the BASS cans of the -X00 series, the little bit of bass impact you lose with the pads still makes them slightly ahead of the D2000's - all while bringing out more detail, extension, and tighter bass.)\n\nAs much I love the D2000's, I do love the TH-X00 more. The Denon/Fostex are all metal outward construction, an aluminum and magnesium alloy (a brittle metal unlike steel alloys, so be careful with them), the only plastic pieces in the headphone being the driver baffle, earpad attachment ring, ball bearing detent housing for the headband adjustment mechanism and nylon grommets for the adjustment posts. They also don't use real leather, but a synthetic one made from eggshell protein and they will start flaking apart after many years of use. Lambskin pads don't - the J-Money look almost brand new after 7 years. No real replacement for the headband though, and that is the part that will wear out first.\n\nFor open I really like the Philips SHP9500, modded with Shure 1840 pads and custom leather headstrap... most comfortable headphone that I have had, and I had the AKG K-7XX. Mainly use for gaming with V-moda Boom PRO mic. Endgame for me though is STAX lamda series...ever since I heard an SR-L300 it's been one I REALLY must have.

The Fostex sound the best to me. I own the Fostex too but after just 2 years they broke twice on the headband and I fixed them but now they don't fit on my head right. They they broke again. Horrible design. I like the sound but I'd tell anyone to stay way away from these unless you like broken headphones. I can get them fixed but they'd just break again so what's the use?

i bought these and after 6 months use, i decided i did not like the sound signature, i prefer the RP50 mk3, the relatively dulled slow bass response (to my ears) annoys me, unexciting is the perfect description ........but lovely looking cans, i have not sold them as keep I going back, but to no avail.
