I somehow missed this review. Recently, I had the chance to personally listen to the FiiO K17 and compare it with gear I know very well.\r\n\r\nI have owned the FiiO K19 for about two years now, with roughly 5,500 hours of listening time. In addition, my system includes the Gustard X26III, Gustard R26II, and Gustard H26. I mainly listen using the HiFiMan Arya Organic.\r\n\r\nTo be honest, the FiiO K17 didn’t really work for me. When compared to the FiiO K19, the difference is immediately noticeable. The K17’s bass felt softer and lighter — it lacks the weight, density, and impact that I hear from the K19. The midrange on the K17 sounds softer and slightly pushed forward, whereas the K19 has a denser, richer, and more “physical” midrange. This became especially clear after I got familiar with the Gustard X26III.\r\n\r\nFor me personally, the K17 doesn’t provide the kind of musical engagement that the Gustard R26II does, nor the drive and emotional impact of the FiiO K19. In the end, it comes across as a rather calm and neutral, but not particularly engaging source.\r\n\r\nIn your review, you mention that the FiiO K19 sounds analytical and neutral. I used to think the same until I listened to the Gustard X26III. After that, the K19 is perceived quite differently. The X26III, for me, is truly neutral, sterile, and even slightly clinical in its presentation. Against it, the K19 sounds noticeably livelier, warmer, and more emotional, with a denser and fuller midrange.\r\n\r\nAfter switching to the Gustard R26II, I can no longer clearly describe the K19 as an analytical device. Rather, it comes across as a warm source with a dense, rich midrange, strong microdynamics, and powerful, punchy bass. In terms of engagement and versatility, the K19 has proven to be a very strong all-rounder for me.\r\n\r\nI most often listen to music and watch movies on the K19. In gaming, it delivers strong emotional impact, good contrast, and a convincing sense of realism. The Gustard X26III, on the other hand, hardly evokes any emotion for me, which is why I rarely use it and have decided to put it up for sale. The R26II is excellent for music, but in games it doesn’t provide the same level of engagement, contrast, and drive that the K19 offers. I sometimes even consider selling the R26II as well, but on certain tracks it sounds so beautiful that I quickly change my mind.\r\n\r\nIt is possible that the FiiO K19 simply matured over time with extended use, and that’s why I now perceive its sound as more coherent, rich, and musical. In any case, these are purely my personal impressions based on long-term comparisons of the devices within the same system.
