I found this method on reddit few months ago. Did it, my speaker went alive (it was about 5 years unconscious before). But after some time it stopped charging and the woman voice just keep saying the lower and lower percents of remaining battery charge. Now it looks like the battery is dead - red light is not flashing but is on all the time when spaeker is connected to power source. I tried to find the tread on reddit, but it was deleted. But I found this video. The trick with update doesn't work for second time. The updater doesn't seem to see the speaker at all. I ordered new battery, will try to change it...launch

You are a life saver. I had the battery replaced on my soundlink mini 2 and got blinking red light. Thought it was gone.\nUpgraded firmware twice. First upgrade was normal. Second time used advance mode as suggested. Upgrade went fine. Placed it on charging cradle as original charger is more powerful. After couple of hours viola everything is working fine. \nPlease note if you are replacing battery let the new one charge for some good time before you can start using it. Thanks again for the great video that saved my sound link and gave it another life :)launch

Genius! Thanks, worked a treat. It really grinds my gears though that BOSE puts in software like this so people end up throwing perfectly good things away. I now deliberately will avoid buying another Bose product, as I was so close to chucking it out needlessly. I'd done the fault find (again well hidden) and it claimed i needed to send it for \"service\". What a con!launch

I was hoping against hope this was true and it was!!! I am now sitting and listening to my Mini II after having tried everything to get that blinking red light to go away. Bose support was going to have me return it for a $80 repair but this worked. Thanks so much!!! I'm quite the happy guy now! :-)launch

I have this speaker. I had it for 2 years and used it everyday pretty much. It WAS a great speaker when it worked. Recently mine stopped charging. I did everything Bose recommended on their website, still no cigar. I have to call Bose to see if they will replace it even though it has been about 2 years. For $200...his speaker should last much longer. I went to amazon today and started to read the reviews and noticed other people had the same issue . Will stop charging after a year or two. \n\nMy recommendation for anyone eyeing this speaker. Keep looking! It's a waste of money,...you're paying top $$$ for a speaker that will give you a 2 year lifetime if you're lucky. So sad...now I let's see what song and dance I get from Bose when I call them tomorrow. smh....launch

I had to download a program for it to run through a page in my browser and then enter a cheat code to unlock a secret feature to be able to update my seemingly already updated speaker? lmao. Thanks for the instructions on accessing the Bose app backdoor. As a UI/UX developer, it blows me away why Bose doesn't just go ahead and put in an \"Advanced Settings\" capability that is accessible with a button. Having a backdoor in the application for firmware reset, at this day-and-age, is ridiculous. Sincere thanks techTOP!launch

Unlike the original Mini's plug-in battery, the Mini II's battery is soldered on, making replacement much harder for users who want to extend the speaker's life themselves.

According to what I have read, both should have the same size battery. But 1 uses a battery plug which makes battery replacement much easier, while 2 is soldered on. The only things that make the battery last longer on the bose soundLink 2 are that you have less bass and that the bass turns down faster when you turn the volume up and that you can no longer play as loud.\n\nyou get a speaker with a poorer sound with less bass and a weaker amplifier only to play approx. 3 hours longer.\n\nbose SoundLink 2 has too little bass and too much treble. It has (loadnes) that make the bass turn down when you get closer to 50% volumelaunch

the big differences between old and new is the USB charging capability and the speaker phone. biggest flaw is the inability for the user to change the battery. This is the best speaker on the market for its size. the quality of the unit is bar none the best and customer support for Bose is great as well. And yes it beats the pill. they have added some electronic acoustics mods that ramps down the bass just a tad but not noticeable to the human ear.gets rid of distortion at high volume levels.launch

I bought a new one, mini ii se, wasn't impressed at all, bass was absent, even updated the firmware from bose website, still no improvement. Sounds like a 1992 civic base model speaker. Waste of $180. Got a JBL charge 5 the next day at best buy, that thing slaps hard with bass, sounds like a mini gangbanger soundsystem on the go.launch

DO NOT BUY! A friend of mine has one of these and I was so blown away by this little speaker I got one right away. I enjoyed it and spoke highly of it for about a year until it started cutting off while playing. I asked my friend if he had ever encountered this problem and his bose was doing the same thing. It plays for maybe 30 seconds then shuts off. We have both tried to contact bose about our problem multiple times and have never received a response. Im done with bose.launch

I'm curious to know if the 2 is made in Malaysia or Mexico? I had a few sound link mini 1 with a couple made in Mexico, I found the sound was far superior than the Malaysia (later) make. Bose seemed to have cut costs in this aspect moving their production line to Malaysia for the later generations of sound link mini 1.launch
